To ensure growers understand the technical details, please emphasize that when the Decoy sprayable is applied by drone, it should be used as a surfactant, as a standard attract-and-kill (A&K) application. These drone applications should be scheduled with the same frequency as traditional full-cover sprays. Growers should monitor their crops closely to accurately assess pest risk and determine the best time for applications. You can find the recommended application rates detailed on the product label.
It's important to highlight that Decoy can be used as an A&K strategy against both Spotted-Wing Drosophila (SWD) and Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB), significant pests affecting small fruit, nut and pome fruit crops globally. Our data shows that effective toxicants for mixing with Decoy include Entrust (or Spinetoram) and Malathion. This approach offers the advantage of allowing growers to use 1/10th of field rates compared to full-cover applications. Drone applications allow for rapid action, reduce labor costs while maintaining crop quality.
Efficacy data indicates that drone-applied A&K method provides crop protection that is comparable to, and sometimes even better than, traditional full-cover sprays. However, because proper application is important, thorough education for both growers and applicators will be key.
